Today, March 17th, is St. Patrick's Day. Patrick, at the age of 16, was captured by Irish pirates and taken from his home in Britain and made a slave in Ireland to look after animals. After six years of enslavement, he was able to escape and return to his family in Britain. Following a calling from God, Patrick became a cleric and returned to Ireland, where he was once a slave, to preach the gospel. He was a missionary to this pagan land and came to be known as the Apostle of... Ireland and founder of Christianity in Ireland. Much of the entire country was converted to Christ under the work and ministry of Patrick. His ministry is still being felt today by the many Christians in Ireland. There are many lessons we can learn here, but one that stands out to me is that no matter what your circumstance, your past, or your challenges, if you allow Him, God can use you to help change the world. Today, pray a simple prayer that St. Patrick prayed: Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lay down, Christ when I sit down, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in the eye that sees me and Christ in the ear that hears me.
